Your insurer (insurance company) enjoys a right to refuse payment of your insurance claim if you do not cooperate in the investigation. For example, if you claim for a stolen vehicle, you must submit to an examination under oath if requested by your insurer. You must also provide authorizations requested by your insurer to verify your file with various governmental authorities. You must answer all questions honestly and completely, failing which, you will be deemed to be in bad faith and your insurer has a right to refuse the claim. See the decision of the Québec Court of Appeal in Intact compagnie d’assurance vs. 9221-2133 Québec Inc., 2015 QCCA 916 (leave to the Supreme Court of Canada refused).
